1910 School Health Service 2010

2010 marks the centenary of the School Health Service in Western Australia

The Service was formally established in 1910, under the name of ‘School Medical Service” and has grown considerably over the last 100 years into its current format. School Health Services are provided by community health staff employed by the Department of Health’s Area Health Services and consists largely of school health nurses providing services to primary and high school children.

The Community Health Nurses Western Australia Association (CHNWA) launched the "100 year celebrations" of the school health service at the 9th Biennial Community Health Nurses Conference in the City of Geraldton on the 27th and 28th August 2010.

In addition, CHNWA acknowledged the current school health service staff at various forums across the State, by presenting all existing school health staff with a booklet/newsletter and a souvenir celebrating 100 years of the school health service.
