Community Health Nurses Western Australia (CHNWA)

is an organisation for Community Health Nurses and people with an interest in the area which is based in Western Australia. CHNWA's objectives are to uphold, protect and advance the interests of Community Health Nurses. We do this through initiating measures which will ensure high standards of nursing knowledge and practice by its members. Some of the projects that the CHNWA have undertaken in the past to achieve this include:

  • Organising professional development to update our knowledge base re current research and practice. Speakers and workshops are presented on a regular basis;
  • development of the “Competency Standards for Community Health Nurses”;
  • development of “I am a community nurse” package to present an overview of our profession and activities;
  • writing submissions on behalf of community nurses in response to current issues;
  • represent community nursing on various committees;
  • work collaboratively with other groups on clinical issues
