Leonie Hellwig - President

Leonie Hellwig was first voted to the Executive Body in 2008 and is the current Chairperson. Leonie is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with a special interest in supporting women to breastfeed their infants and young children. She has a particular interest in the science around attachment and life outcomes, and how research findings can be translated into practice that supports parents. She is currently employed within Child and Adolescent Community Health as a Policy Officer in the Child and Maternal Health Portfolio.





Hilda Wright - Committee Member

Hilda Wright is a Community Clinical Nurse Manager working for Child and Adolescent Community Health WA. She has 37 years nursing experience as an RN, RM and Child Health nurse working in metropolitan teaching hospitals, the Pilbara and also overseas, 29 of those years have been spent within community health in a variety of roles. Hilda has been a Nurse Manager for 17years. Hilda has recently completed a postgraduate certificate in Nursing Management and Leadership through the Leading Great Care Program and in conjunction with the University of Notre Dame WA. Hilda currently manages a team of child health, school health and school based immunisation nurses south of Perth. Her strengths are clinical skill, communication, problem solving and approachability (and a sense of humour). Hilda currently lives in Rockingham WA.


Karine Miller - Treasurer

Karine Miller has been on the Executive Body since 2005 and is a Board Member of the national organisation (AAMFCHN). Karine is the CHNWA Newsletter Editor and has been a member of the Conference Committee in 2008, 2010, 2012 and Chairperson of the Conference Committee in 2006. Karine is a Registered Nurse and Midwife, holds a Graduate Diploma in Nursing Education, Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Nursing (Midwifery), a Child and Community Health Certificate, a Sexual and Reproductive Health Certificate and a Master of Nursing (Community Practice). Karine lives and works in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, and has held the position of Regional Coordinator Community Nursing, Goldfields since 1998.

Margaret Abernethy - Committee Member

Margaret Abernethy is a past chairperson of CHNWA, a position she held for more than five years. Margaret is a Registered Nurse, Midwife and Child Health Nurse; she holds a Diploma in Health Service Management and is currently the Director of Population Health in the Pilbara.

 

 

   

 

Kathleen Smedley - Committee Member  

Kathleen Smedley was voted to the Executive in 2012. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing (ECU), Post Grad Dip in Public Health (Curtin) and a Post Grad Cert in Maternal, Child and Family Health (Flinders Uni). Kathleen has worked for many years in the Goldfields as well as working in Queensland and Victoria. Her original career path was in the acute setting working in ICU and for the RFDS but a passion for Child and Family health now sees her residing in Albany where she works as a Maternal and Child Health Nurse.

Lynne Sprigg - Committee Member 

Lyn Sprigg has been a CHNWA member since 2006, voted as a committee member in 2011 and again from 2014.  She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science, Nursing (Curtin), Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Nursing -Midwifery (Curtin), Community and Child Health Certificate (Curtin) and Graduate Certificate in Infection Control (NMAHS). Lyn has been an avid supporter and advocate of Community Health Nursing practice for over 30 years, having worked across many regions within the Perth metropolitan area in all school health practice areas, child health  and immunisation services (0-4 years and school based).  She moved into a Community Clinical Nurse Manager for seven years and most recently is working as Clinical Nurse Specialist Infection Prevention and Control for Child and Adolescent Community Health.

Beverley Bradshaw - Committee Member

Beverley joined the CHNWA Executive in 2014 and is a Registered Nurse and Midwife with post graduate qualifications in Sexual and Reproductive Health, Child and Family Health and a Diploma of Business. Beverley worksinAlbany as a Senior Nurse Child Health.
